A Museum for school

Museum & School

Programme a visit
to Piana delle Orme
it will be an extra-school extraordinary experience!

  Thousands of objects, machineries and tools of every kind - belonging to one of the largest private collections in the world – come to life changing into instruments of knowledge inside an enormous historic thematic park, a museum unique in its kind : Piana delle Orme. Thanks to a three- dimensional narrative plot, to the employment of visual and olfactory sources, to music and sounds, to the use of special effects which reproduce movements and situations, the museum recreates a journey in the last century history and traditions.
In only a day children can breath the atmosphere of a specific event which has marked the 20th century or they can see a certain working activity or the past daily life. A sort of adventure –trip that, in “ all and now” society educates to respect “ people’s labour in history”.

Piana delle Orme is an incredible experience of knowledge.

The sections

According to the collections, the journey inside Piana delle Orme has been divided into two main sections which subjects document about fifty years of history marked by radical changes on territory [ the Reclamation of the Pontine Marshes]; the tragic events for the population [ the Second World War]; crucial social transformations for the country [ the passage from a rural economy to an industrialized one].
AGRICULTURAL SECTION

The AGRICULTURAL SECTION begins with the great epic which, in the Thirties, transformed the pontine territory radically. The malarial environment, the activities, the settlements and the territorial organization of the Pontine Marshes. The reclamation works, the colonization and the construction of “the new towns”.

The journey through time goes on showing, almost truly, how Italy produced and consumed before the extraordinary transformation that crossed the country in the Fifties and in the Sixties.

The main agricultural production systems have been displayed.
They are :
the Cycle of Wine;
the Cycle of Wheat;
the Kitchen Garden and Water;
the Cycle of Milk;
the Cycle of Coal;
the Carts; the Workshop;
the passage from country civilization to life in towns;

After looking closely at several protagonists of the agrarian mechanization – which have freed man from the agricultural labours’ hardship- we can go into the charming olden-time toy world.

War section

The WAR SECTION shows some of the main warfronts of the Second World War through a historically structured journey that begins with the causes which led to the conflict.
Images, films, vehicles, tools and thousands of findings document these dramatic events and help to place them in space and time. The special system of exhibition, suggestive and moving, brings to a serious reflection on war. The words studied on books take shape in these rigorously documented reconstructions.
In the display there are some famous and rare historic vehicles, such as the tank protagonist of “ Life is Beautiful” by Roberto Benigni, and Skipper, the USA fighter which came from the sea.

The thematic pavilions in the two sections are the following:
  • RECLAMATION OF PONTINE MARSHES (2)
• OLDEN –TIMES FARMING MACHINES (1)
• LIFE IN THE COUNTRY (2)
• OLDEN-TIMES TOYS AND MODELLING (1)
• OLDEN-TIMES MILITARY VEHICLES (1)
